The National Shag Dance Championships will take place tonight through March 9, 2013 at the Spanish Galleon located in North Myrtle Beach. The event was started back in 1984 and has seen numerous dancers become National Champions. The NSDC has been the winner of two "Feather Awards" for the best swing dance events in the United States.
The SHAG has been declared as the official state dance of South Carolina and has been an established segment of Southern culture. Ground zero for the shag phenomenon has always been Myrtle Beach during the 30's and 40's. Wailing music from jukeboxes or DJ's see couples gracefully slide across the floor to the 8-count dance known as "the basic" where partners move into then away from one another.
Get ready to watch the most impressive dancers as the NATIONAL SHAG DANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS take place at the SPANISH GALLEON located at the end of Main Street in North Myrtle Beach at 100 Ocean Drive. Cost of admission is $15.00 - $30.00 and for further information go to the website www.shagnationals.com. 843-222-6706.
See you out and about at the SPANISH GALLEON.
